Anti-Racist Sub-Committee 2020-22

The EIS Anti-Racist Sub Committee advises the Equality Committee on race equality projects, policies and campaigns.

The EIS Anti-Racist Sub Committee advises the Equality Committee on race equality projects, policies and campaigns. Its membership is drawn from the Equality Committee and also from among the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) members of the union.

The following members will serve as co-opted members during the period 2020-2022: 

  • Tony Adams (City of Glasgow College)

  • Sofia Akbar (Falkirk)

  • Khadija Mohammed (University of the West of Scotland)

  • Nuzhat Uthmani (Glasgow)

  • Chijioke Obasi (RESERVE) (University of the West of Scotland)

Thanks are due to the members who served during 2018-20, and who contributed much to the Institute’s anti-racist work: Wahid Ahmad, Mary Osei-Oppong and Daljit Sandhu.

The members of the Equality Committee who will serve on the Anti-Racist Sub Committee during the 2020-2021 session are:

The sub-committee’s current priorities include the development of an anti-racist poster campaign and training events, as well as supporting the integration of anti-racism into the curriculum and promoting the increased representation of BAME education professionals.
