Anti-Racist Sub-Committee 2024-26

The EIS Anti-Racist Sub Committee advises the Equality Committee on race equality projects, policies and campaigns.

The EIS Anti-Racist Sub Committee advises the Equality Committee on race equality projects, policies and campaigns. Its membership is drawn from the Equality Committee and also from among the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) members of the union.

The following members will serve as co-opted members during the period 2024-2026: 

  • Sara Akhtar (Scottish Borders
  • Sadia Hussain Savuk (Edinburgh)
  • Khadija Mohammed (University of the West of Scotland)
  • Janvier Nkurunziza (City of Glasgow College)
  • Nuzhat Uthmani (Glasgow)

The members of the Equality Committee who will serve on the Anti-Racist Sub Committee during the 2024-2025 session are:

  • Nicola Fisher (Glasgow)
  • Andrew O’Halloran (Dumfries and Galloway)
  • Sunita Nayyer (South Lanarkshire)
  • Mark Smith (North Ayrshire)
  • Nikhat Yusaf (Edinburgh)

New: More than a third of surveyed secondaries have had to amend their curriculum because of staff shortages

Computing was cut from the curriculum in 20 schools; technical was removed in 9 and 'scaled back in dozens of others'
