Equality: Anti-Racism

We support a rights-based approach to migrants and refugees, and expect governments to uphold all relevant laws including the 1951 UN Refugee Convention. We reject the demonisation of refugees and asylum seekers and seek to enhance understanding of migration. 

To that end, we have produced new guidance for teachers on challenging the myths and misunderstandings related to immigration.  

There are three booklets, each one tailored to a different age range: 

• Early Years and Early Primary (recommended for Nursery to Primary 2) 
• Primary (recommended for Primary 3 upwards) 
• Secondary and Further Education

We hope that teachers will find this resource useful for supporting open, honest conversations about immigration and for countering some of the misinformation that has spread in recent years, particularly in some sections of the media. 

It should be used in the context of a broader anti-racist education programme, and may assist establishments to meet their legal obligations to promote equality and tackle discrimination based on race and religion.
